Module Installation
The installation of the modules for the HI6000-4 system is simple and secure. Simply disconnect the device from the power supply, remove the fastening screws, and insert the desired module into the designated slot. Once the locking mechanism engages, the module is securely fixed and ready for analysis. To protect any unused slots, it is recommended to use the provided blank covers.

- Manual calibration at one point using a value entered by the user.
OUR, SOUR, and BOD Methods
The HI6000-4 dissolved oxygen module is designed to be used with the HI6000 modular multiparameter system for dissolved oxygen measurements in both fresh and saltwater. It is compatible with the optical dissolved oxygen probe HI7641133 (opdo®) and the polarographic dissolved oxygen probe HI764833.
The Oxygen Uptake Rate (OUR), Specific Oxygen Uptake Rate (SOUR), and Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD) methods guide the user through procedures according to standard guidelines:
- The OUR method evaluates the biological activity of a system based on oxygen consumption, with results reported as milligrams of oxygen consumed per hour.
- The SOUR method measures the oxygen consumption of a system.
- The BOD method quantifies the rate of oxygen absorption by microorganisms in a water sample over time (usually 5 days).
All concentration measurements are automatically compensated for atmospheric pressure, temperature, and salinity.

Recommended Probes
Optical Probe for Dissolved Oxygen HI7641133 (opdo®)
The HI7641133 optical probe, equipped with the smart cap HI764113-1, provides accurate long-term measurements of dissolved oxygen, reducing the need for frequent calibrations. The cap comes pre-configured with calibration coefficients and includes a luminescent oxygen-sensitive material, protected by a robust, waterproof layer.
The measurement method of the HI764113 optical probe for dissolved oxygen is based on luminescence, which is the ability of a material to emit light.
The probe contains a luminophore, a substance that, when excited by blue light from an LED, emits red light. The presence of dissolved oxygen changes the response of the luminophore to this excitation. In the absence of oxygen, the signal duration is at its maximum. When oxygen interacts with the sensitive surface of the probe, the signal duration and intensity decrease. The luminescence duration is measured by a photodetector, and this data is used to calculate the dissolved oxygen concentration, displayed in % saturation or ppm (mg/L).
Recommended Probes
Polarographic Probe HI764833
The HI764833 polarographic probe (Clark-type) measures dissolved oxygen concentration using amperometry. It is equipped with a platinum cathode, an Ag/AgCl anode, and an integrated temperature sensor that enables the calculation of dissolved oxygen.
With its slim 12mm design, the probe is ideal for measuring oxygen in narrow containers like test tubes, wine bottles, and standard BOD bottles.
The probe features a screw-in PTFE membrane that separates the internal components from the sample. Oxygen passes through the membrane and generates a current proportional to the oxygen concentration. The cap, filled with HI7041 electrolyte, easily screws onto the probe, making maintenance quick and easy.
